Our Story

Sumseron Coffee was born out of our Managing Directors fathers’ dream. Mr. Stephen Cheruiyot Seroney was the first farmer to plant SL34 in Fort Ternan in 1978. The coffee catered for the long term stability of the family and with that Johns passion for coffee was born. They toiled side by side, tending to the coffee trees with care, and eventually Mr. Stephen Seroney inadvertently passed down his love for coffee from one generation to the next. The bond between father and son, steeped in the aroma of coffee, is a testament to the enduring power of passion, love, and the legacy that continues to bloom with every cup of coffee we are a part of.

PROJECT TO SMALL COFFEE PRODUCERS- SEED PROGRAM

Each year, we collect $0.01 from each kilogram of coffee we sell throughout the year to fund our Seeds program. Seeds offer financial grants to small coffee producers and farmers at coffee cooperative societies we work with to implement sustainability projects they identify as beneficial. By directing iridescent funds into Seeds, we will be able to support more projects and increase the resilience of coffee farmers and their communities.

The Big 5 Pillars for SUMSERON COFFEE

Coffee for youths

The youth in Kenya are amongst the brightest in the world, yet their true potential is far from unleashed. We have partnered with incredible humanitarians such as Mercy from the Mercy Koros Foundation to teach the Kenyan youth who are abusing drugs that there exists a path to a more fulfilling future. Poverty, idleness, lack of opportunity, is a disease that coffee farming could mitigate. Together with passionate youth like Mercy, our hope is that we can help chart a future that will make any individual proud of their success.

Coffee for Sustainability & Environmental Conservation

Humanity is perhaps facing its most difficult challenge in climate change. At Sumseron, we strongly believe it is our absolute duty to take care of the environment and focus on sustainable farming. Embracing tree planting and environmental consciousness isnt just a responsible choice, is it a strategic choice for all farmers. It enhances sustainability, mitigates climate impact, and most importantly it secures the future for generations to come.

Coffee for Women

The women of Kipkelion Women in Coffee are involved in a program called Growing Women in Coffee. As in most coffee-growing communities, women typically contribute a large portion of the work but disproportionately own very few coffee farms themselves. The project aimed to give women ownership over their coffee trees. Now, women in Kipkelion continue to increase their economic and social empowerment by marketing their women-grown coffees through Sumseron Coffee exporter. We have also replicated the same model in West Pokot women in coffee, Mount Elgon Women in Coffee thus ending gender based violence & domestic issues in families because there is enough at home.

Coffee for Peace

Together with Ambassador Tegla Loroupe, we have embarked on a mission to foster peace between warring communities in the North Rift region of Kenya. Amb. Loroupe is a beacon of hope that not only echoes in the North Rift but in all of Kenya. Her passion for peace is second to none. Our mutual goal is to ensure that we empower communities to lay down their weapons and invest more on the prospective opportunities that will positively impact their futures.

Coffee for Education

Education is the key to a better future for a population. The Coffee for Peace initiative envisions integrating education programs within the pilot communities. In collaboration with the county governments and the coffee cooperative societies, we intend to set up financing infrastructure that pools resources towards supporting student education from coffee-producing families to attain the highest academic qualifications and thus pulling their families from poverty incidences, while at the same time guaranteeing themselves quality and fulfilling life.
